Introduction to Scratch

What is Scratch?

In this beginner’s guide I’ll be using a programming language called scratch. It’s interactive, easy to understand for non-technical people, and visual-first. Although most of Scratch’s marketing is centered around kids, it does not make a difference whether you are 8, 20, or 40 years old, as it is never too late to get into software and game development.

Make an Account

First, you’ll need to make a Scratch account at scratch.mit.edu. Just click sign up and they’ll walk you through the sign up process. If you are a child, your parents will have to give you permission for you to access your scratch account.

Scratch Structure

As you will see there are many tabs and bars in Scratch, but in this course we’ll mostly be in the “My Stuff” tab. Just click the folder icon and it will take you to a page where later all your projects will be stored, for now you don’t have any of course.

This is all for this little tutorial on how to get started, and see you in the next lesson ;)
